This is not one of those “10 top tips” posts. There are lots of that kind of information is available across our site 🙂
(The Ultimate Guide to Fitness After 40, and the blog page are great places to start!)
It’s more of an opinion piece, sharing how Genesis Gym is doing our part to provide Singaporeans the best in the fitness and healthcare field.
Historical Perspective
Over the years, I must have done at least 10 personality tests to see what motivates or “drives” me. One thing that always comes up is growth and learning. However, learning can come in many forms.
In any profession, there is always a tendency to learn mainly inside that profession. That is not wrong. Any professional needs excellent technical skills to do their jobs.
Our Singapore personal trainers have a systematic training process to deliver exercise, nutrition, and coaching to our clients.
However, I am always conscious that truly new, useful and revolutionary things almost always come from outside the person’s current industry.
History tends to agree with this line of thinking. Thinking differently tends to lead to big jumps in innovation.
- The Wright brothers invented the airplane in their small garage. They were not aeronautical scientists. They were bicycle repairmen.
- Henry Ford had a dream of mass-producing cars for the average person. When all the average person thought they wanted at the time were “faster horses”.
- More recent innovations like the sharing economy exemplified by Uber and AirBnB also are signs of people thinking of new and better ways of doing things.
Genesis’ Application
The Genesis tagline of “Smart Fitness, Total Health” means that we want to take information and skills from all areas of health. Using this information, we then apply the right skills, at the right time, to help solve the different problems that personal training clients ask us to help them with.
How can fitness or rehab or nutrition be based on one magical injury treatment method, one superfood, or one special piece of equipment?
That is what is being sold today. And it is ineffective.
Our History
10 years ago, we started off with a focus on fitness. Looking great, being physically strong. Training and nutrition were our initial phases of growth.
This is where almost all other fitness centers stop. But Genesis is not just any gym! I was not satisfied with this area of learning because it does not cover many other health related aspects that our clients face.
Then we moved into the area of injury prevention and recovery. The comprehensive posture therapy system we have put together takes several of the top treatment methods in the world and integrates them into a system where each method solves part of the puzzle, eventually leading to a more complete healing, and a far lesser risk of future injury.
I’m not sure if there is another system in the world which looks at the eyes, feet, skin, jaw, soft tissue, bone alignment, short leg, links between local and global brain control, and between acupressure points and muscle function.
Add exercise and stretching to this and it’s truly a “magical” system which thousands of clients have benefited from.
Today we are including communication psychology to help clients accomplish more by giving them information and coaching in a way that they respond to in the most effective way.
We are always adding in the details of stress management and lifestyle habits, which help overcome the overstressed and poor health state that in turn, blocks progress in a person’s fitness.
How do I decide what to learn?
I like to learn all kinds of things from economics, to business skills to history…
But when it comes to health, the methods I like to learn are:
- Empowering – They allow clients to take control of their own health in a positive way.
- Effective Immediately – If they don’t show at least some benefit on the first session, its probably not the correct method to solve the problem
- Permanent Result – When done with consistency, the benefits must give long term results.
- Healthy for the Long Run – Steroids work. But healthy? Not really. We will never put a client’s health at risk.
Not every method I learn has these benefits. And these methods are NOT incorporated into the health and fitness system at Genesis Gym.
Most recently, we learned about using special receptors in the skin called Chapman points from one of the world’s best massage therapists. These points can be used to INSTANTLY:
- Turn on weak muscles
- Lengthen short muscles
- Integrate muscles correctly into better movements
- Manage stress and breathing
- Remove pain and tightness
- Patients can learn to do most of these techniques on their own!
It matches all the criteria for what I consider a good method to add to our system.
This will certainly be incorporated into Genesis Posture Therapy and is going to help thousands (maybe millions?) of people in the future! In fact, we are hosting the Genesis Posture Therapy Seminar on 10 December, join us and I’m sure it will be an invaluable learning experience for you too. Sign up for the seminar today.
To continued growth, learning, and client successes
