I just thought that I should eat more vegetables. So there wasn’t much structure in my life.
I wasn’t overweight, just soft around the edges and I wanted to tone up. But I was all over the place with my fitness routine. I watched workout videos on Youtube, ran sometimes, and even considered fasting.
I used to run 10km a couple times a week, but got bored of it. I used to play basketball, but it was hard to make it a regular thing. I played around with dieting – but I’d have ramen for lunch and nothing for dinner. Obviously, nothing good happened.
My approach was a mess. That’s when I realised that I needed professional help to put together a concrete plan that I could stick to.
So I started asking around for gym recommendations. Friends and family who were Genesis Gym members described it as “God, so tough” and “They’re really good!” in the same sentence. That sounded like a good combination to me: clear results thanks to effective training.
I had heard about the benefits of strength training but my main goal at first was to just drop weight.
I was impressed with the precision and thoroughness that the Genesis Gym coaches take with each client’s journey. For example, instead of just a standard BMI calculation, coaches take the time to use skinfold callipers.
I also like the team-based approach to training. That way, you’re exposed to different personalities and they pay attention to all kinds of details in your work-out form.

Right off the bat, it felt great to have a plan and a routine that made sense. After a few weeks, I felt more in control of myself. It’s a cliché, but I felt physically stronger and less “gooey” – less formless, both mentally and physically.
The Genesis team has helped me to improve in areas other than just physical fitness. I now pay more attention to lifestyle choices. I’ve become hyper-aware of what goes into my food, and whether something helps my work-out or just satisfies a craving. In terms of health, I’m not just drifting through life anymore.
I’m happy with how the coaches constantly keep me in check, and how they helped me build up the practice of always fine-tuning my health and lifestyle choices.
Thanks to the Genesis team and my own customised programme, I now have more focus and discipline in my routine.
Health to me is super important. I believe in the value of constantly pushing yourself to improve. I want to get stronger, improve stamina and continue to challenge myself to reach more fitness milestones.
Genesis Gym has motivated me to keep marching forward. I’m very thankful for the team that ignited that spark in me.
People around me have said that I look more toned and that I’m eating better, and I think that has a positive influence on them too.
I’d like to encourage people who were like me in the past, those with very general health goals, and who tend to follow fitness fads – get up and make a plan. Seek out professionals who can identify your struggles, that put in quality time and effort, and that plan out a clear path to your fitness goals. If you find a gym with the right fit, stick with it and put in the work.
Just like how I did with Genesis Gym and I’ve never looked back.
