My Body Transformation Journey: “Upon joining the Genesis Academy as an intern during my final year in Uni, my senior coaches helped me to track my food intake, be mindful of what I eat, and eventually prepare my own meals.
I managed to become leaner, weighing 66.4kg and at 14.45% body fat. Prior to joining the Genesis Team, my lowest body weight was 69kg. At Genesis Gym, I also learned the science behind supplementation and making good food choices. These have helped me to feel more energetic.”

4 years ago, when I was still in university, I came across a YouTube video by Genesis Gym. I was impressed with what I saw and decided to read up more about the gym. And what I read, gave me an even better impression. I learned that Genesis Gym is way ahead in the fitness industry in terms of training methodology, scientific research and so on.
I knew then, that this is the gym that I want to be part of. Not only to help me achieve my personal fitness goals but also to work in.
My fitness goal then was to sustainably improve my body composition while managing my busy lifestyle, chronic injuries and nagging pains.
Before joining the Genesis team in March 2016, even though I knew what to do based on my random readings, I struggled to get consistent results as I lacked the technical knowledge. More importantly, I was also burdened with chronic pains from old injuries that hindered me from making practical applications of what I have learned.
Even though I was relatively stronger than my non-lifting friends, I had low energy levels and wasn’t able to much due to the injuries. I have a torn meniscus on my right knee and a ruptured tendon on my right big toe.
I was active in the dance club as well, my interest mainly in the modern dance moves like popping and locking.
But I was getting frustrated that my physical limitations were preventing me from being more active and involved in the activities I enjoy. I felt that if I wanted to progress in weights training, I have to forgo my progress in dance since my injuries caused me to be unusually sore from weights training, affecting my ability to execute proper technique while dancing, and vice versa.
I did some therapeutic exercises and resistance training exercises to aid in the recovery process. I was even spending 3 to 4 hours a day every day to train, in order to maintain the freedom from the pain and movement restrictions. While that did make me feel awesome, I could not sustain it at that time as I was in my final year of studies.
I was often limping because of the shifting of my weight to compensate for the mobility restrictions due to the nagging pains. Having gone through this painful experience, I decided that I want to be able to help others to live pain-free and be rid of chronic pains.
Upon joining the Genesis Academy as an intern during my final year in Uni, my senior coaches helped me to track my food intake, be mindful of what I eat, and eventually prepare my own meals.

My experience as a coach with Genesis Gym so far has enriched me both in the theoretical knowledge and the practical know-how. I managed to find ways to rehab myself, by combining targeted rehabilitation with techniques from the Genesis Posture Therapy system, active recovery techniques I learnt on my own, as well as paying attention towards details in other non-training aspects.
Now, I no longer have to spend 4 hours every day training to reduce the amount of limping. This leaves more time for me to weight train and to explore different food and ways of meal prep, translating to greater results. Greater results in improving physique and increasing general energy levels also lead to me being more confident and alert on the gym floor during my coaching shifts, allowing me to be a more effective coach.
The Genesis culture of sharing knowledge and information really resonates with me. Personally, I value informed decision-making the most. I believe everyone should be well informed and given the freedom of choice to decide what they want to do, what they want to pursue in their life, whether in career, hobby, lifestyle, or food choices.
To top things off, being a coach allows me to make meaningful impacts to clients’ lives by educating them in training, nutrition and lifestyle, allowing me to guide them towards not just their fitness goals, but their personal life goals.
Currently, I am looking forward to becoming a certified Genesis Posture Therapist. I believe the knowledge I learn will help me to be an all-rounded coach who can help others to rehabilitate through chronic injuries and gain fitness and health for the long run, just like I did.
Overall, I consider my transformation to be surreal since I could never imagine myself being this lean and strong at the same time, weighing 66.1 kg at 13.59 % body fat. And I am still trying to test my own limits to see how much further I can go. I hope my transformation is an inspiration to the people around me, thanks to Genesis Gym.
