Choosing A Personal Training Gym Or Fitness Trainer in Singapore

Singapore has many hundreds of choices when it comes to personal fitness training options or personal fitness coaching services. Whether you want to lose weight, build muscle, improve your health, or just have fun, there is a personal training gym for you in Singapore. But how do you choose the best one for you, from among the many options available?

Here are some tips and factors to consider when looking for the best personal fitness coaching and personal training gyms in Singapore - for your needs.

What are your personal fitness goals and preferences?

It's super important to understand your own personal fitness goals and preferences.

  • What do you want to achieve from your workouts?
  • Do you have particular sports or physical performance goals?
  • How often does your schedule allow you to train?
  • What kind of exercises do you enjoy or dislike?
  • Do you have any past injuries or medical conditions?
  • Do you prefer to work out alone, with a partner, or in a group?
  • Do you need guidance, motivation, or accountability from a personal trainer?
  • Do you want the personal trainer or fitness coach to “hand hold you” or “educate you” to help you become more independent over time?
  • Do you need your personal fitness coach to have knowledge about nutrition, injury prevention, lifestyle habits?

These questions will help you narrow down your choices and find a gym with a fitness coach or personal trainer in Singapore that suits your needs.

What are the different kinds of fitness coaching & personal training gyms in Singapore?

There are many kinds of fitness coaching and personal training gyms in Singapore, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Here are some of the most common ones:

  • Conventional gyms:

These are gyms that offer a wide range of facilities and services, such as cardio machines, free weights, resistance machines, group classes, and personal training. They usually have a large and spacious setting, with a variety of equipment and trainers. They are ideal for people who want to have access to everything and enjoy a diverse and dynamic atmosphere. Some examples of conventional gyms in Singapore are Anytime Fitness, Fitness First, and Pure Fitness.

  • Boutique fitness studios:

These are small, specialised gyms that offer a variety of classes and programs. They tend to have a strong focus on one type of activity, such as HIIT, pilates, yoga, crossfit, martial arts, spin, and more. They usually have a trendy and cosy atmosphere, with high-quality equipment and instructors. They are ideal for people who enjoy a specific style of workouts and enjoy a community vibe.

  • Personal training gyms:

These are gyms that focus on providing one-on-one or small group training sessions with certified and experienced trainers. They usually have a private and exclusive environment, with customised and tailored programs for each client. They are ideal for people who need professional guidance, personalised attention, and flexible schedules. Or have specific sport performance or injury prevention goals.

What are the factors to consider when choosing a fitness coaching and personal training gym in Singapore?

Once you have an idea of what kind of gym you are looking for, you can compare and evaluate them based on the following factors:

  • Location:

Choose a gym that is convenient and accessible for you, preferably near your home or workplace. This will save you time and money, and make it easier for you to stick to your routine. A good way is to use a search engine location feature. For example if you want a personal training gym you can enter “personal training gyms near me” or “gym with personal trainer near me”

  • Price:

Choose a gym or personal trainer that fits your budget. Compare the membership fees, packages, and promotions of different gyms, and see what they include and exclude. Also, check the cancellation and refund policies, and read the fine print carefully. An offshoot of price is value. There are high priced gyms that position themselves that way because of the brand. That does not mean that their results will be better for you. On the other hand a fairly priced fitness coach that is motivational and shows you genuine care can definitely help you achieve your goals.

  • Quality:

You can read reviews, testimonials, and ratings of different gyms and trainers online, or ask for referrals from your friends and family. Online testimonials can be very helpful but it is possible to “buy” reviews. However you can usually tell “real” reviews through the heart-felt nature of the stories they share in the reviews.

  • Atmosphere:

Choose a gym that has a positive and supportive atmosphere. Look for gyms that are welcoming, respectful, and fun. Also, look for gyms that match your style, vibe, and culture. You can visit different gyms and take a tour, or sign up for a trial or a free class, to get a feel of the place and the people.

Conclusion

Choosing the best fitness coaching and personal training gym in Singapore can be a challenging and confusing task, but it can also be a rewarding and enjoyable one. By following the tips and factors mentioned above, you can find a gym that will help you achieve your fitness goals and make you happy. Remember, the best gym for you is the one that you love, can visit often and works for you. Happy gym hunting!

How to book a Personal Training Session at Genesis Gym Singapore?

Challenges in Booking a Time Slot with a Personal Fitness Trainer

You did your research, you typed “find a personal trainer near me” into google to find a nearby gym in Singapore, you read all the reviews you could…and you chose the ideal fitness trainer!

But the next problem occurs. Booking a personal training session.

Booking a session with a personal fitness coach in Singapore seems like such a simple task. It should be as simple as booking a seat at the cinema, a time with your hairdresser, or a table at a restaurant.

But there are a few differences that you may not have considered.

  • You usually (hopefully!) go to the gym more frequently

than you go to the movies or to your favorite restaurant. This means that there needs to be a time slot available for you more frequently than most other services that you. Getting multiple time slots per week with your personal gym trainer that meets your schedule and training plan can be more challenging than expected.

  • Your fitness trainer is busy too!

If your personal trainer is good, he or she will be popular. And will have many other clients. It is very possible that they like the same times as you do. This means that it will be harder to get the time slots that you want with your personal fitness trainer. This is even more problematic in Singapore where top personal trainers can be very fully booked.

At our personal training gym in Singapore, there are many clients who changed their personal fitness coach because they could not even finish up their package of sessions. They trained much less frequently than they wanted to, and they didn’t get the results from their personal training package than they hoped for.

  • There are often penalties for changing your booking.

The standard in the personal training gym in Singapore is that you need to give a minimum of 24 hours notice to change your fitness training time slot booking. This can be really problematic in Singapore because of the hectic schedules and multiple responsibilities that many people who goes to the gymin Singapore have.

How is the Personal Fitness Trainer at Genesis Gym different?

You join our entire fitness training team. Not just a single, lone personal fitness trainer. You benefit from the care and experiences of the entire fitness team. Just like taking care of a racing car, a team can do a better job than 1 person.

This means that you don’t need 1 personal fitness trainer to be “free” to book a session. Our team concept means as long as one of us is free, you can train. We have most likely the most flexible scheduling of any personal training gym in Singapore. It also gives you a consistent level of service quality. (In most personal training gyms, it’s pure luck if your fitness coach is good or not)

Our team has technology and team meetings, so all the personal fitness coaches in Singapore know about your needs and goals. The senior fitness coaches in the team designs your program. But all of the team can help you execute it properly. This dynamic system adjusts to your schedule, experience level and personal fitness goals.

Personal Fitness Trainers in Singapore (By Experience Level)

There are dozens of different personal fitness training certifications available in Singapore. Here is just a short list of some of the more popular ones.

  • American Council on Exercise (ACE):

ACE is one of the most popular certifications for personal fitness trainers in Singapore. It covers topics such as human anatomy, exercise physiology, nutrition, behavior change, communication, and the ACE Integrated Fitness Training Model.

  • National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM):

NASM is one of the most respected personal fitness trainer certifications in Singapore that one can possess. It focuses on the Optimum Performance Training (OPT) model, which is a systematic and evidence-based approach to designing and delivering effective and individualised exercise programs.

  • International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA):

ISSA is a globally recognised certification for personal fitness trainer that offers a comprehensive curriculum covering personal fitness assessment, program design, exercise technique, nutrition, and business skills. ISSA also provides various specialisations such as sports nutrition, strength and conditioning, and corrective exercise.

  • Federation of International Sports, Aerobics and Fitness (FISAF):

FISAF is an international organisation that promotes quality standards and education in the fitness industry in Singapore. FISAF offers a range of certifications such as personal fitness trainer, group exercise instructor, aqua fitness instructor, and core training instructor.

  • American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM):

ACSM is the world’s largest sports medicine and exercise science organisation. ACSM certifications are based on the latest scientific research and best practices in the field. ACSM offers various levels of certification in Singapore such as certified personal fitness trainer, certified exercise physiologist, and certified clinical exercise physiologist.

As you can see, they each focus on different aspects of fitness. And we have hired personal fitness trainers and coaches in Singapore with one or more of the certifications listed above.

The difficulty that you might face when choosing a personal fitness trainer or personal training gym in Singapore, is that from your point of view, it’s hard to know which of these certifications is the most important for your personal fitness trainer to have.

Also, many personal trainers can have exactly the same certifications but have vastly different experience fitness levels. Each of these certifications is actually quite easy to pass (after all, certification companies want as many students as possible to take their courses and pay money) and it's possible to be a certified personal fitness coach and yet have little to no actual experience with proper training in the gym. Or with coaching a wide range of clients with different needs, goals, and medical history.

At Genesis Gym we solve this problem with our team of personal trainers based on a coaching approach. This gives each client a consistent, high level of coaching quality. It’s no longer the “luck” of choosing a personal fitness trainer or having one assigned to you by a salesperson.

No matter what amount of coaching or exercise experience a personal fitness trainer has, all of our personal fitness coaches go through a 3 month, 100 hour hands-on internship (more practical than every available coaching certification), so we all coach using the same cues and principles.

After this initial 3 months, there is continuous learning through our bi-weekly staff education sessions in the gym. As well as 2 additional levels of skill development in the Genesis Academy.

Constant professional and personal growth is a core value at Genesis Gym and I believe it is a win-win for our fitness coaches careers and the results of our personal training clients in Singapore.

This wide variety of skills in the fitness team means that there will be someone able to help you with training, sport performance, nutrition, injury management and lifestyle related health conditions. The more we learn, the better we can meet your needs.

Types of Personal Fitness Trainers at Genesis Gym Singapore

In Singapore, personal training and fitness coaching is quite an unregulated industry. Anyone can become a “certified personal fitness trainer” with a few days of online courses. They can also build a website quickly and will now be listed when people search for “personal trainer near me”.

To stand out in the crowded personal training field in Singapore, the common business advice for fitness coaching is to “niche” yourself.

“I’m a body transformation coach”

“I’m a crossfit coach”

“I’m a bodybuilding or physique coach”

“I’m a strength and conditioning coach”

“I do corrective exercise”

And so on…

Totally understandable. But that is not how an excellent fitness coach in Singapore develops themselves. Specialising due to “business reasons” can leave a personal trainer missing out on fundamental skills that limit their professional growth, and their client results.

Dedication to the Basics

The way we train personal fitness coaches at Genesis Gym Singapore, follows a more systematic development process.

Our goal is to have an almost “obsessive” dedication to the basics. And all other areas of skill are layered on top of that.

For the Singapore males, it's easy to understand (ladies will get it too!).

It's similar to learning things in the Army.

Everybody starts off learning how to dig a foxhole and shoot the basic rifle. This is the same as a personal fitness coach learning how to teach common exercises, stretches and basic nutrition well in the gym.

Then the army adds on more specialised combat skills and specialisations like communications, medic, mine clearing, sniping, parachute jump qualification and so on.

At our personal training gym in Singapore, we teach coaches specialisations like learning how to do injury management, sport specific conditioning, working with seniors, or pregnant ladies and so on. Depending on the personal fitness coach's aptitude and interest.

In this way our Singapore personal trainers can do the basics well. Which is needed for 80% of all client personal training sessions. But because of our team based approach, there will be a personal fitness coach with more specialised skills around to help with the specialised needs the remaining 20% of the time.

In this way we can deliver a true “team concept” to clients so that more aspects of health are covered which leads to the best possible results from their personal training gym membership in Singapore.

Personal Training Packages at Genesis Gym Singapore

Most personal trainers and personal training gyms in Singapore sell packages of “sessions”, which is easy to understand for a customer.

But when you come in as a new visitor, the most important thing is not the “package size”.  But rather, what do you need in your personal training package for the best possible long-term results?

The type of customer who enjoys their Genesis Gym experience the most is the one who is looking for great long term results. Not just “time with a personal trainer near me, a few times a week”.

Although you buy personal training by “sessions” (and that's what happens at Genesis Gym too) your personal training package should include a lot more. That is done “outside” of the hours of your sessions. If all you get is the time in session, it is possible you are getting a “friend” not a professional service.

  • Program Design:

Coming up with a plan that makes sense considering your goals, schedule, experience level, injury and medical history, and more.

  • Program Adjustment:

This is done every few weeks and it is the part that gives your long term results. After all, any personal fitness trainer can copy a training plan from the internet and give it to you. But, it's the week to week adjustments and the monthly program re-designs that will keep you progressing long term.

  • Nutrition Planning and Adjustment:

Designing a plan that you can stick to long term. No point doing a nutrition plan that you hate, because you will likely rebound back to your original weight or even higher.

  • Lifestyle Habit Formation:

You are only exercising a few hours per week. Making a lifestyle plan for the other 150+ hours can either support or harm your progress. We need to get it right!

  • Overcoming Obstacles:

Different people have different obstacles to their success. Things like old injuries, digestive issues, food allergies, frequent travel or shift work, and so on. Your personal fitness trainer needs to know how to work around these to help you achieve great results.

  • Measurements and Progress Tracking:

Making sure you are on the right track so that the correct adjustments are made.

The amount of each of these things depends on each person. E.g. Someone may be great on nutrition and cooking, but know less about forming healthy sleep habits.  And this is part of the customisation that we try to bring to each person’s experience with our Singapore personal trainers at Genesis Gym.

Why Find a Personal Fitness Trainer & Coach at Genesis Gym Singapore

With so many personal training gyms in Singapore to choose from… here are 5 reasons to put Genesis Gym at the top of your list!

Consistent Experience

One of the difficulties that you may face when choosing a personal trainer in Singapore is that when you go into a gym, you will either be assigned a fitness coach by the salesperson or you might be asked to choose a personal fitness trainer just by looking at a picture of them. This is a really difficult task!

At Genesis Gym we want every customer to have a consistent experience. This is why we coach you as a team. When all the personal fitness coaches at the gym know you, you will be able to benefit from the experiences of the entire team.

The senior fitness coaches do the more demanding tasks like your assessments and your program design but the entire fitness team can guide you through your workout sessions.

Our team also makes sure that every personal fitness coach knows about your special goals or past medical conditions so that we can work together to help you. Working together as a team of personal trainers instead of a single coach has other benefits for you as well… such as…

Flexible Schedule

Teamwork helps you overcome another challenge that may occur when choosing a personal fitness trainer in Singapore.

Finding a time slot to train that matches your personal fitness coach’s schedule.

In Singapore, life is busy, and assuming your personal fitness trainer is good, he or she will be busy too! It can be a challenge to find time where both schedules match. This problem means less training, and slower results!

The team concept minimises this problem because each member of the fitness team is able to help you have a great workout. So you don’t need to wait for one particular personal trainer to be free before you exercise.

And here is a “secret” benefit. There is no cancellation charge at Genesis Gym. No “cancel with 24 hours notice” or you lose a session. We believe our clients are respectable people and won’t abuse this :)

Variety of Skills

Teamwork also means you get a variety of skills available to you. If you need them. Every personal fitness trainer at Genesis Gym can teach you the fundamentals of fitness. Such as exercise technique, or the correct way to do stretches. But perhaps there is a more complicated requirement such as dealing with digestive issues, joint discomfort from old injuries, or understanding the kinds of nutrients that may be depleted if you are on a certain type of medication.

In these cases there is always a more senior coach around to help solve your problems.

This broad range of skills is hard to find in a singular personal fitness coach! It’s like the Formula 1 racing team. For every car there is a whole team of engineers making sure things work smoothly.

Focus on the Long Term

In the fitness industry, there is a massive push for “fast results”. There is nothing wrong with speed! And Genesis Gym’s “Singapore personal training testimonial page” has many such stories.

However this is NOT the best way for everyone. If your overall stress levels and health are not great, a rapid body transformation can be stressful for your body. You may get initial success but if the methods are too harsh, you are likely to rebound “fatter” than before you started.

Our personal fitness coach team in Singapore continuously checks on the state of your stress and recovery so that you keep results long term. We believe you can get a good “before and after” from your personal fitness coaching program. But even more importantly, we want you to have an amazing “after the after”, and keep the results for life!

Reviews and Recognition

The most important measure of success is both the results and the customers’ personal training gym experience. If you search for our Facebook or Google reviews, you will find hundreds of 5 star reviews.

But like all things on the internet, these can be bought or faked. The cool thing is that there are many reviews that are hundreds of words long. These are really hard to “fake”! Please check them out :)

Besides the large number of customers that are satisfied with our personal training in Singapore, Genesis Gym has also managed to gain the trust of other institutions. These institutions include:

  1. Sport SG - Genesis Gym has twice been the recipient of the “Sport innovation Award” for our fitness app that all our personal training clients in Singapore use.
  2. Our app “FEAK” (Peak Fitness) has been selected for partnership with some of the fitness coaches of the New sealand All-Blacks rugby team. The technology used during your personal training sessions at Genesis Gym help athletes win at the highest levels.
  3. Genesis Gym’s team teaches courses at the higher education level.
    1. Singapore Management University - Certificate of Exercise Science
    2. Singapore Management University - Professional Certification in Fitness Training
    3. National University of Singapore School of Continuing & Lifelong Education

Benefits of Personal Fitness Training in Singapore

Here are some of the benefits of finding a personal fitness trainer in Singapore to help you achieve your fitness goals and avoid plateaus and obstacles along the way!

  • Accountability:

A personal fitness trainer will keep you on track with your workouts and motivate you to stick to your plan. They will check in with you regularly, remind you of your appointments, and hold you accountable for your actions. They will also provide positive reinforcement and encouragement when you need it. Having someone who expects you to show up and work hard can make a big difference in your commitment and consistency.

We want to help you avoid situations where you might lose motivation, skip workouts, or give up on your goals. Without a personal fitness trainer, you might also lack the support and encouragement you need to overcome challenges and setbacks which can happen because life isn’t perfect! You might also find it harder to track and measure your progress, and miss out on the rewards of achieving your milestones.

  • Education:

A good personal trainer will teach you proper form, technique, and exercise science, as well as other health and fitness topics. They will explain the rationale behind each exercise, how it benefits your body, and how to perform it safely and effectively. They will also educate you on nutrition, recovery, injury prevention, and other aspects of wellness. Learning from a personal trainer can help you improve your knowledge, skills, and confidence.

Without a personal fitness trainer, you might perform the exercises incorrectly, inefficiently, or unsafely. You might also miss out on the latest research and best practices in fitness and nutrition. You might also have gaps in your knowledge, skills, confidence and you may struggle to find reliable and credible sources of information without a personal fitness coach.

In Singapore many people hire “tution” teachers for their children. Finding a good personal trainer is like “health and fitness tuition” for any age group!

  • Personalisation:

A personal trainer will design a program that suits your specific needs, preferences, and goals, taking into account your fitness level, medical history, and limitations. Personal trainers will assess your strengths and weaknesses, measure your progress and adjust your plan accordingly. They will also consider your lifestyle, schedule, and budget, and offer solutions that work for you. A personalised program from a fitness trainer can help you achieve optimal results in the shortest time possible.

It is all too easy to blindly follow a generic, one-size-fits-all program that doesn’t suit your needs, preferences, and goals. You might also waste time, money, and energy on ineffective or inappropriate exercises, equipment, and modalities without a personal trainer. You might also overlook your strengths and weaknesses, and fail to adjust your plan accordingly.

  • Variety:

A personal fitness trainer will introduce new exercises, equipment, and modalities to keep your workouts fun, challenging, and effective. They will vary the intensity, duration, frequency, and type of your workouts, and incorporate different elements such as resistance, cardio, balance, flexibility, and coordination. Personal trainers will also keep you updated on the latest trends and innovations in the fitness industry. A varied program can help you avoid boredom, plateaus, and burnout.

The aim of our personal training gym in Singapore is to help you avoid getting bored, frustrated, or complacent with your workouts. You might also hit plateaus, stagnate, or regress in your fitness level. You might also miss out on the benefits of cross-training, functional training, and interval training. You might also limit yourself to the same exercises, equipment, and modalities, and ignore the opportunities to try new things

  • Feedback:

A personal fitness trainer will monitor your progress, provide constructive criticism, and celebrate your achievements. They will give you honest and timely feedback on your performance, and help you identify areas for improvement. Personal trainers will also recognise your efforts, praise your accomplishments, and reward your milestones. A feedback loop can help you stay motivated, focused, and satisfied.

Without a personal fitness trainer, you might lack objective and timely feedback on your performance. You might also make mistakes, develop bad habits, or reinforce incorrect techniques. You might also have unrealistic or vague goals, and fail to evaluate your progress. Without a personal trainer, you might also neglect your efforts, achievements, and improvements, and lose motivation and satisfaction

  • Safety:

A personal fitness trainer will ensure that you perform the exercises correctly, reducing the risk of injury and maximising the benefits. They will demonstrate the proper form and technique, and correct you if you make any mistakes during personal training sessions. They will also supervise your workouts, and intervene if you experience any pain, discomfort, or fatigue. They will also advise you on how to warm up, cool down, stretch, and recover. A safe program designed by personal fitness coaches can help you prevent injuries, enhance your performance and prolong your health.

Injury, pain and discomfort is extremely disruptive to motivation and long term success. If you have not had formal personal fitness coaching, you might also compromise your posture, alignment, and balance. You might also overtrain, undertrain, or train improperly. You might also neglect the importance of warming up, cooling down, and recovering. You might also jeopardise your health, performance, and longevity.

  • Results:

A personal trainer will help you reach your desired outcomes faster and more efficiently than working out on your own. They will set realistic and measurable goals, and help you track and evaluate your progress. They will also challenge you to push yourself beyond your comfort sone, and overcome any obstacles or setbacks. Personal trainers will also provide you with the tools, resources, and support you need to sustain your results long-term. A result-oriented personal training program can help you transform your body, mind, and life.

Without a personal trainer, you might take longer, work harder, or spend more to reach your desired outcomes. You might also fall short, miss, or abandon your goals. You might also experience frustration, disappointment, or dissatisfaction. You might also have difficulty maintaining, sustaining, or enhancing your results long-term.

If you are looking for a good personal fitness trainer in Singapore, you can often find one by reading reviews or searching for “personal trainer near me”. Of course you are more than welcome to arrange a visit to Genesis Gym to see how our personal trainers in Singapore can help you.

Where To Find A Personal Trainer In Singapore?

Finding a personal fitness trainer in Singapore is not hard. As of 2024, there are more than 250 gyms and fitness studios of all kinds in Singapore. A simple “Find a personal trainer near me” or “find a gym with personal training near me” search will yield a lot of results.

The concentration of gyms and personal training services seems to be in the central and eastern parts of the island. But there are personal fitness training gyms almost everywhere in Singapore.

No matter where in Singapore you live or work, there are 3 main “types” of personal fitness trainers in Singapore.

  1. The freelance trainer
  2. The trainer in a commercial gym
  3. The trainer in a personal training studio or personal training gym.

There are benefits and disadvantages to each of these personal fitness trainer options in Singapore and I will try to explain them here.

Freelance trainers

  • Pros:

Lower overhead costs, so freelance personal fitness trainers might be able to charge a cheaper rate. No rent, no large pieces of fitness equipment. Can often travel to your location.

  • Cons:

Limited equipment, so long term exercise variety would be lacking with these personal trainers. “One-man-show” so if their knowledge is limited, there is a limit to what you can learn. Also if they are unavailable, then you don’t get a training session.

Trainers in Commercial or 24 Hour Gyms

  • Pros:

It’s convenient if you already have a gym membership. There are often a wide variety of personal trainers to choose from. Commercial gyms also have a wide variety of training gym equipment. And if you go at “off peak” hours and your personal trainer is good, you can use a lot of different exercises to achieve your goals.

  • Cons:

You need to pay for both a gym membership and the personal trainer fees. Fitness gyms usually are not focused on personal training package sales.

You are not the ideal customer. Because if you have a personal trainer, you will come, and you will take up space. The ideal customer is the person who does not use their membership. And the person who attends big group fitness training classes where they can squeeze many people into a small space.

It is hard to decide which personal trainer will be the best for you. Often this process is random. “Here is a list, pick one”.

Trainer in a Personal Training Studio or Personal Training Gym.

  • Pros:

Personal training fitness gyms in Singapore only do personal training. There is no membership to use the gym without a coach. This means that the quality of personal training is likely to be better. Simply because you are NOT buying a gym membership. You are buying a professional fitness coaching service, and even more than that, you are buying a result.

  • Cons:

This business model is not the best from a “dollars per square foot” point of view. Especially in Singapore where rentals are very high. One client doing a personal fitness training session with their coach, can take up the space of 3 or 4 people in a spin class.

This means that personal training gyms in Singapore need to be very careful about how they use their space and generally choose a lower variety of exercise machines to achieve this balance. It takes a really good personal fitness coach to develop a long term training plan with less equipment at their disposal.

Considerations Before Getting Personal Training from a Gym

The question becomes what your priorities are. Here are three things to consider in addition to things you can ask the personal fitness trainer attending to you when you visit.

How easy is it for you to get to the gym or to the personal trainer in Singapore?

In Singapore, transport (especially during peak hours) can be troublesome and stressful. There is a difference between going for personal training in Singapore versus going to a nice restaurant. You will visit a personal fitness coach a few times per week. But you will visit an eatery perhaps a few times per year. So convenience will be a massive priority for most people considering personal training.

What is the reputation of the personal training gym?

This goes beyond reading Facebook or google reviews. They are useful to evaluate the quality of service. But there is also the financial reputation of the fitness center, studio or personal training gym as well.

There are many instances of personal training gyms suddenly closing down in Singapore. Well known names such as Pure fitness, UFC gym, Fenix Fitness, California Fitness and many more have suddenly closed with no warning to members. And if the company declares bankruptcy, there is little to no chance that you can get their remaining membership or personal training program refunded.

There are a few “red flags” that can help you sniff out if a gym has higher financial risks to the members.

One is that they focus on selling long term fitness training memberships. The ideal gym customer is one who buys a multi-year, long term, even “lifetime” membership and does not show up often. Cash up front for the gym, zero effort to care for the customer after that!

Another potential red-flag is frequent “sales”, I’m not talking about referral bonuses or birthday gifts etc. But when a personal training gym in Singapore needs to give “XYs occasion special sale on memberships” that is not a good sign of financial health.

One more red-flag is how personal training gyms get their equipment. The gyms that get equipment using “hire-purchase” methods with an equipment supplier are probably higher risk for you. They can “end the contract” without any capital losses. And close down with minimal hassle. Gyms or personal training studios in Singapore that buy equipment up-front are probably a better bet from a financial risk perspective.

Will the equipment of the gym support effective personal training?

It is difficult to optimise a personal training gym to do both membership sales and efficient personal training. To sell memberships you want to show visitors beautiful bathrooms, and lots of variety of equipment. “Look at all the cool stuff we have”.

However, like much of life, results and success come from doing the basics really well. That’s why a good personal training gym in Singapore will have multiple pieces of basic equipment. Many benches, many dumbbells, many barbells and areas to do fundamentally sound exercise with a good personal fitness coach.

For example at Genesis Gym Singapore we have multiple sets of each weight of dumbbell. If you need to wait for a dumbbell, or wait for a bench to be free, that will affect the rest time you take and the “density” of your fitness workout. This is time-inefficient. And your results will suffer.

What happens if my personal fitness trainer is not available?

This question is important because both good fitness trainers, as well as clients have busy schedules. What happens if you “cannot use up your personal training package?” Is there a substitute personal trainer (and how do you know they understand your goals and program?). Is there a way to get an extension? How are you compensated for the slower progress due to inefficiency scheduling?

What happens if I have questions my personal fitness trainer is not able to answer?

It is very hard for one single personal trainer to know everything there is to know about health and fitness. What happens if there is a health or injury issue that comes up? Who does your personal fitness trainer turn to for guidance? Is there a support system in place to help you with the “outside of training session” obstacles that come up?

These considerations are ones that Genesis Gym Singapore has spent the last 18 years refining so clients get the best possible long term results. Feel free to schedule a consultation to see if we are a good fit for your personal training goals in Singapore!

FAQs about Personal Training & Fitness Trainers in Singapore

Initial Consultation

Do you offer free trials for personal training in Singapore?

We do not offer trial sessions but we have a free consultation. During this time you can meet with our senior coaching team and see the gym and personal training in operation. After this visit, you will gain a very good understanding of what we do and find out if our personal fitness trainers suit your needs.

How long is the initial personal training consultation at Genesis Gym Singapore?

The personal training consultation is about 30 minutes. If you decide to sign up, it is followed by a posture and movement assessment which would take another 30 minutes.

Is the initial personal training consultation considered a workout session?

It is not a workout session. The workout gear is used, so you are more comfortable when we assess things like movement and flexibility and take body composition measurements.

General

How much does a personal trainer cost in Singapore?

Our personal trainer rates range from about $60-100 for a personal training session and come in blocks of 10 or more.

Can I use the gym on my own?

Genesis Gym Singapore is a personal training-only gym so all our clients have supervised personal training sessions using customised plans designed by our coaching team. We do not have membership options for you to use the facilities alone.

Can I choose my personal fitness trainer at Genesis Gym Singapore?

You will have a main coach in charge of designing and adjusting your program, who will also be carrying out the initial consultation and assessment.

But we have a team-based coaching system for your personal training sessions, where the entire team of coaches will be assisting you, not just one specific coach.

Are they 1:1 personal training sessions?

The personal coaching ratio adjusts dynamically, ranging from 1:1 to 1:4, depending on the difficulty of the exercise and your familiarity with the program. New clients with new programs or exercises are always coached 1:1. But there will be times when you are already familiar with your current plan and don't need a personal fitness trainer to "watch you drink water during your rest time".

What payment modes do you accept at your personal training gym?

We accept Nets, PayNow, credit cards, bank transfers, Shopee Pay and Grabpay. We do not take cash.

Can I pay for personal fitness training by installments?

We have installment options where you can pay by Grab PayLater, Shopee PayLater, Pace or Atome. These payment methods allow you to pay in installments of 3 or 4 months at a 4% fee.

What is the nutrition plan like?

It's a customised personal training plan so we will typically ask you to track your food intake for a few days, and we will do calculations and recommendations based on your current food intake.

We want to make it sustainable in the long run, so we will ask you to eat more of something and less of something rather than introducing a lot of foreign food you don't usually eat or foods you cannot find easily.

It's too expensive.

I understand but because we focus on teaching our clients the skill of personal training and how to exercise and eat in a way that's best for them, this is a short-term investment for your long-term health.

Think of it as life-skills education instead of "paying for fitness trainers time".

Many clients go on to work out on their own and do not need to rely on a personal trainer constantly in the long run. They come back only once or twice a month in the long run for a new program and measurements.

How will you help me?

We have two goals when it comes to helping our clients with personal training in Singapore.

1. Your health goals.

We will design the personal training program to help you reach your health goals.

Depending on where you are now with your health, you may or may not be able to achieve this in a typical 12-week personal fitness training program. Although we do have theatrical transformations, we also want to accomplish that healthily by building better habits and making the results sustainable in the long run.

2. A learning/knowledge goal.

With the help of our personal fitness trainers in Singapore, we want to help clients become more aware of what exercises and diets are best for them. How to exercise safely and NOT be scammed by the latest fitness fad or YouTube sensation. So, eventually, you do not need to rely on a personal fitness trainer. If you decide to train independently, you will be better equipped to do so safely and effectively.

How do I join your personal fitness training team in Singapore?
