My fitness transformation: “Within the first 2 months, I already saw a drop of almost 6% body fat, from previously 28% when I first started to 22.5%. My waist line also dropped by 10 centimetres within this period.
Genesis Gym’s holistic approach to help and empowers its clients by teaching them the science behind the methods produces great results. You won’t find that in the commercial gyms.”
(Jeff Ng, 35, Genesis Gym Raffles Place Client)
Hi, I’m Jeff Ng and I’ve been with Genesis Gym since April 2015.
Before I started training with Genesis, my health was starting to go downhill, and I was falling sick frequently, my knee injuries were acting up quite often as well. Although I was only 33 then, I really felt much older than that.
So back then, my fitness goals were pretty straightforward. I wanted to get healthier, get back my general fitness and get into shape.
Like most folks in the Advertising & Marketing industry, my hours are long with deadlines that all need to be met yesterday. Moreover, managing my own business in this highly competitive industry also adds on the stress.
Work stress coupled with the long hours really leaves me with very little time to focus on my health and even eating habits became rather irregular.
I had tried to be an active weekend warrior before joining Genesis. The lack of results from training on my own prompted me to look elsewhere. I knew I needed guidance in terms of training and something more than just the weighing scale to measure improvements.
I had even tried Triathlon adult swimming classes as well which I enjoyed but was too far away from my workplace and the training sessions run on very specific timings that didn’t work with my hectic schedule.
My first impression of Genesis Gym was how professional the environment and the coaches are. They take a very systematic approach in designing each client’s programme by breaking down the goals into realistic and achievable milestones, which makes training a lot more fun and sustainable.
Overall, I felt that Genesis is a place that empowers its clients to take charge and train independently in the long run, by understanding the science and the methodology behind the physical training.
Within the first 2 months, I already saw a drop of almost 6% body fat, from previously 28% when I first started to 22.5%. My waistline also dropped by 10 centimetres within this period.
Because of my elevated stress levels, my consulting coach also gave me supplements and lifestyle advice to improve my sleep and recovery. I really started to also see myself becoming more alert and less tired during the day.
Nutrition-wise, I was able to control my cravings for fried food, and my comfort food – beer.
To me, these changes in health were far more important because I was genuinely feeling healthier and feeling great about myself. But of course, I can’t deny that the changes in the physique were great too, with a smaller love handle and smaller tummy, t-shirts fit better than before.
Genesis Gym knew exactly and is constantly working with myself on what I want to achieve and gave me the tools I needed to achieve not just my fitness goals, but my health goals. Their holistic approach to help and empowers its clients by teaching them the science behind the methods produces great results. You won’t find that in the commercial gyms.
The coaches are very creative in designing my programmes. They’re challenging enough and I find myself really working specific muscle groups after every session.
Another factor that has kept me coming for the past 2 and a half years is this “kampong spirit” that I found with Genesis Gym. In the past, I used to give myself lots of excuses to skip gym training, like, “Oh I didn’t have enough sleep today, I’m still aching, I’m too stressed” So my previous membership at the commercial gym was pretty much wasted.
Thing is, nothing much has changed workwise since then, work is still very demanding, my body is still aching after the workouts, and I am still surviving on 4 to 5 hours of sleep, but I look forward to the training sessions at Genesis. And that’s because coaches know the clients on a personal level and those of us who train around the same time have also become gym buddies. There’s this camaraderie spirit that really motivates me to show up and keep pushing myself.
I’m glad that I took the first step to try things out with Genesis Gym and overcame all the excuses that I’ve been giving myself. I am satisfied with the simple fact that I am in control of my well-being.
The most satisfying part of my transformation so far is being able to inspire people around me to want to make the change for themselves.
At the end of the day, I want to continue to improve my health, be better equipped to manage my stress levels and sleep deprivation in the long run, improve my posture and strength levels even further. This is a pact that I’ve made with my coaches and my fellow gym buddies. And I look forward to seeing these changes in the coming months.
