Hi, my name is Wesley Chong and I’ve been training with Genesis Gym since September 2014.
I’ve always considered myself as a very active person. I was hitting the gym regularly, up to 3-4 times a week. Despite being so disciplined, I still didn’t seem to be getting the physique I wanted. You know, the kind that one would see on Men’s Health! Magazine covers.
Moreover, I was mainly working out on my own with machines, and I felt that I needed to get proper guidance on working out safely with free weights and with proper form.
I also knew that in order to get into a lean physique, it wasn’t enough to just focus on the physical aspects of training, but also nutrition and overall health. I was generally healthy but I wasn’t really paying much attention to my diet and nutrition, and had a bit of a “skinny-fat” problem.
All that, plus a hectic schedule, led to a standstill in my physical transformation. Because of that, I was determined to get out of that rut and look for personal training options.
Having been training for a while now, I knew exactly what I wanted and needed. I was looking for a reputable gym that had a track record of producing results, with a convenient location and was reasonably priced.
Genesis Gym was the only gym that met all of the aforementioned criteria. Right from the beginning, I felt that it was a place that I could acquire a wealth of knowledge about weight training. Till today, 3 years on, I’m still learning so much from the coaches as they tailor my programme based on the different fitness goals I have at each phase of my fitness journey.
The coaches are well-equipped to guide each client to reach their goals in a holistic manner. What I mean by this is that, not only do the coaches push us in the physical aspect of training, but they give us sound advice in terms of nutrition, rest and recovery, and even stress management.
Within the first couple of weeks, I started to see the changes. I was gaining muscle and losing body fat at the same time. Within 1 month, I lost 3% body fat and went down from 13% to 10%, while gaining 2kg of lean mass. Even my midsection, which had been a problem area for me has also started shaping up.
What’s more, with the meticulous guidance of the coaches, I also started paying more attention to my food, making sure that I was taking in enough of each macronutrient to fuel my workouts and growth.
I also became more confident with working out with free-weights, and my interest in the science behind nutrition and exercise was also piqued. I began looking into the purpose of tempo training, how different diets work, and what the different training programmes are intended to achieve, for example – GVT, Wendler’s 5,3,1 and death circuits.
Since training with Genesis Gym, I no longer see working out as a chore and a means to an end, but more than something that I enjoy and can look forward to after a long day’s work. Working out at Genesis Gym so far, has provided me with a sanctuary where I can put the stresses of life aside and expend my excess energy.
No doubt, there are times when the training is hard. But as with any other many goals in life, the journey is rarely easy. But in the end, the results are truly rewarding.
The challenging workouts designed by the trainers, along with the progress I see week to week, pushed me to train harder and lift heavier each time.

And now, I’m starting to bulk up again, so gaining a bit of body fat along the way now is part of the process to achieving bigger a chest, quads and hopefully calves.
Additionally, Genesis Gym has been a place where I have gotten acquainted with, and befriended, many like-minded people with similar fitness goals. This has made the journey a much more enjoyable one as well.
I am truly satisfied with my fitness journey with Genesis Gym so far. And I believe that I couldn’t have achieved this level of transformation without the help of the team of Genesis coaches, pushing me and tailoring my programme to reach each milestone.
Going forward, I would still like to continue building muscle mass while keeping generally lean. And I’m looking forward to doing that with Genesis Gym.
