I have never been a fan of cardio. It can be so monotonous. Besides, I would choose strength training over cardio any day because I want to get stronger and fitter. After starting strength training with Genesis Gym in mid-2015, I noticed that strength training has also improved my flexibility and posture.
By day, I’m a lecturer and by night, I’m an actress/host. As a lecturer, I find myself having to sit for extended periods of times when preparing for class content and going for meetings. Without strength training, I felt weaker. On top of that, I have acting/hosting jobs and have to shuffle between school and onto set for filming; I could really feel the strain on my body.
Strength training works my muscles through its full range of motion. As I lift weights and move through the motions, my body’s overall flexibility also increases. Apart from feeling stronger, I also feel that my posture has improved. I can stand and sit more comfortably.
Having said that, training is not always easy. Every training session with Genesis Gym, the coaches encourage me to challenge myself. They increase the weights and it does get more and more difficult. However, it is this challenge that makes me want more and keeps me going. Since 2015, I have personal records in the gym. For example, my favourite exercise is weighted crunches. I started off with 5kg and now I can go up to 26kg. 30kg is my new aim. Hitting my personal record gives me immense happiness and satisfaction.
Fitness is not an option for me, it is a priority. When something becomes your priority, you naturally make time for it. My work schedule is pretty irregular and can get really hectic at times. Yet, I squeeze in trainings at least thrice times a week. Genesis Gym’s flexible scheduling makes this possible. My fitness goal is to tone up and build strength. After all, strong is the new skinny. Training is something I look forward to. It has not only shaped me physically but also mentally. Nothing can beat the satisfaction you get after a training. To get this feeling again and again, I will go on and on!
