“The first time I stepped into Genesis gym, I felt like I was a little kid in a candy store, admiring at the world-class equipment. Moreover, the culture is really built upon empowering and educating every individual who steps inside a Genesis Gym with the tools and knowledge to get his or her desired results.”
(Coach Latif, 33, Genesis Gym Raffles Place coach)
I was diagnosed with tuberculosis back in 2011 and for the next 6 months, I was on medication and frequent checkups, until I was fully cleared of the disease. During this time, I was only weighing 62.3kilos and have lost a lot of muscle mass as a result of the inactivity. Not only that, I was very depressed about my situation and kept mostly to myself.
When I finally got the green light from my doctor to exercise, I felt this sense of liberation and determination from the new lease of life. I was determined to increase my strength and regain my health.
Exercising became my form of escape from the dark days of being sick. Being able to be active again really built up my confidence and hope in life once more.
Because of what I went through, I decided that I wanted to be a personal training coach. I wanted to start helping people to achieve their health and fitness goals. My journey as a PT coach started in 2013 and I’ve not looked back since.
I’m someone who likes to learn as much as I can, and apply what I learn to practical use. I’ve tried a variety of modalities from Functional Training to Instability Training, short and long distance running and so forth. The biggest issue I face is the inconsistency in following through, either due to the strains on my body or the lack of results that I get from these different methods.
Joining Genesis Gym as a coach really opened my mind to what it means to be a truly world-class coach. Not only is it a very well-equipped gym with a sound training system, the coaches, who are now my colleagues, are extremely knowledgeable and professional. It’s no wonder that Genesis Gym has one of the best reputations in the fitness industry.
The first time I stepped into the gym, I felt like I was a little kid in a candy store, admiring at the world-class equipment. Moreover, the culture is really built upon empowering and educating every individual who steps inside a Genesis Gym with the tools and knowledge to get his or her desired results.
During the first 2 weeks with the Genesis Academy, all the new coaches are put through the German Body Composition training programme, which is a really tough and rigorous full body programme designed to elicit fat loss and expedite muscle gain. We were pushed to our limits every day for 2 weeks. I actually drop 2 kg of body weight after those 2 grueling weeks!
I knew I have joined the right place. The tough training that we receive as coaches meant that we are in the best shape possible, for the clients.
In the long run, I’ve learned about proper nutrition and how to manage stress and sleep. And for the first time, I could say I can now go through a full night’s sleep completely undisturbed whereas previously I would wake up like 2 or 3 times a night.
Moving forward, I hope to continue the journey to reach my fitness goal. My ultimate goal is to step on stage in the Men’s Physique Competition for at least once in my life. My target would be 2018 year end.
As a coach, I’ve become more motivated than ever to help my clients reach their health and fitness goals. Genesis Gym has ignited a burning desire and passion in me to always give my very best for every client.
